The MCHS Men’s Soccer team became Area champions after their playoff game April 2. The game was against Cypress Ridge High School, and Mayde Creek won 2-1.

“We started off playing ‘not ourselves,’ and our motivation was making it to state,” senior Juan Ponce said. “We had the mindset to make it to playoffs.”

The team has been training all season. They even established a team term “coins” to refer to what motivates them on the field.

“My coin is my parents,” Ponce said. “I do it for them. Whenever you are going downhill, you have to remember your coin, which is remembering who you’re doing it for.”

The last time MCHS Men’s Soccer made the playoffs was the 2015 season. The Regional Quarter Finals will take place tonight April 5 at Legacy Stadium against Tompkins High School.

“[Our] main goal set is to leave the field with no regrets,” senior Alejandro Amezquita said.
